Kilimanjaro Trekking via Umbwe Route
Umbwe Route
The Umbwe Route approaches Mount Kilimanjaro from the southern slopes, offering a challenging and scenic journey through some of the mountain’s most dramatic landscapes.
The climb begins at Umbwe Gate, where the trail enters a dense tropical rainforest before following a steep, narrow ridge between deep valleys. As you gain altitude, the forest gradually gives way to open moorland and breathtaking views of the surrounding mountain scenery.
After reaching Barranco Camp, the route joins the Southern Circuit, continuing across the famous Barranco Wall, Karanga Valley, and Barafu Camp before the final ascent towards Uhuru Peak.
Although the Umbwe Route is shorter than several other Kilimanjaro routes, its steep ascent makes it particularly demanding. A longer itinerary with additional acclimatization time is strongly recommended.
At Aqon Safari Limited, we organize guided Umbwe Route climbs with experienced mountain guides, professional mountain crews, and carefully planned trekking arrangements to support your journey to the Roof of Africa.
