Explore the Magnificent Ngorongoro Crater

The Ngorongoro Crater is the world's largest intact and unfilled volcanic caldera. Formed millions of years ago following the collapse of a large volcano, it now creates a spectacular natural enclosure for wildlife.

Its crater floor covers approximately 260 square kilometres and contains grasslands, swamps, woodland and Lake Magadi, a shallow alkaline lake that attracts flamingos and other bird species.

During a crater game drive, visitors may encounter large numbers of zebras, wildebeest, buffaloes and elephants, alongside predators such as lions and hyenas. The crater is also one of the best places in Tanzania to look for the endangered black rhinoceros.

Crater game drives are subject to conservation-area regulations, vehicle access rules and applicable fees.
